Addiction: There is no medical standard to treat chronic pain with a short acting pain medicine, like norco, (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) alone. It may be best to work with a specialist trained in addiction medicine to both help you avoid the despair and damage that long term narcotic use can lead to and safer ways to manage your pain. I believe five months of Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) has not been in the best interest of your health.

Drug tolerance: Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) belongs to the opioid family of medications. In some patients, over time, these medications lose their efficacy, a process termed tolerance. Tolerance may be the reason that Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) is less effective in treating your pain. You would benefit from a thorough history and physical exam by a pain management specialist to determine whether your underlying pain condition has worsened.
