Talk to your doctor!: Talk to your doctor! the basic answer is that you should take Buspar (buspirone) as long as directed by your doctor. Do not stop it on your own. You will need to get instructions on how to stop taking it. Originally Buspar (buspirone) was not thought to cause problems when it was taken for a short time. Sometimes it is used for long periods of time, in those cases many physicians will wean off slowly. Ask your physician.

Usually not for long: One has to take tranquilizers and pain pills judiciously and in smallest amounts and shortest periods possible.Yes these medications should not be stopped abruptly.
