Costochondritis: Costochondritis is one possible cause of pain in the center of the chest with certain movements, and not all of the time. This is an inflammation at the joints between head of ribs and your sternum -- can be very painful. http://www.webmd.com/pain-management/costochondritis also there are more serious causes as well -- so best to see your physician for evaluation.

Costochondritis: This could be caused by costochondritis. Costochondritis is an inflammation of the cartilage that attaches the ribs to the breastbone. Costochondritis may be caused by trauma, such as bumping the rib cage; as a result of a viral infection; or as part of an inflammatory disease process. Usually the cause is unknown. See your doctor for a proper assessment.
