Quad weakness: The most common source of pain and "instability" after acl reconstruction is from weakness in the quad muscles (acl failure is possible but actually less common). If the muscles have not returned to normal function, you will continue to limp and walk with a straight knee (quad avoidance). This further weakens the quad and harms the hamstrings and calf, causing pain, burning, and giving way.

Get MRI: It sounds as if it's soft tissue which will not show on x-ray. Consult orthopod and get mri.
