Amsler grid: No nutritional supplements, vitamins, eye drops or medications prevent abnormal blood vessel formation (choroidal neovascularization). Amsler grid home monitoring and regular eye exams are the best defense.

Unfortunately no: Macular degeneration, unfortunately, has no cure, and once abnormal blood vessels start leaking, the only reasonable treatment to stop them is an intraocular injection of an anti vegf medication. Most commonly used is avastin, but others such as lucentis, (ranibizumab) & Eylea are also very effective. A cornucopia of fruits and vegetables and areds approved vitamins/antioxidants is supportive of eye health.
