Depends: 6-week studies showed that adding Abilify (aripiprazole) to an antidepressant could improve symptoms of depression in as little as 1 to 2 weeks (versus an antidepressant alone). It will depend on how adequate are the doses of the antidepressant and abilify (aripiprazole). If it does not seem to be working to improve depression after 6 weeks then consult your prescriber. It takes time. I hope you experience a good outcome.

Celexa/Abilify: Abilify (aripiprazole) at optimum dose as tolerated, should work within 10-14 days. Celexa takes longer, up to 4-6 weeks to see full effect.

If you are not comfortable or unsure about the medication your Doctor prescribed then it is advisable to get a second opinion from a Psychiatrist after you have had a complete physical exam by your Primary Care Physician to rule out any underlying illness. A Clinical Psychologist can also help you with psychotherapy.
