What is poorly controlled diabetes?

Great question: It 's great to know your hemoglobin a1c - it's a blood test measure of diabetes control over a 3 month period. Good control is an a1c less than 7%. Poorly controlled is generally considered over 9%.

The definition: Varies, but technically anything above normal. The ada uses an a1c value of 7.0, other organizations use 6.5%. The degree of control you should try to achieve varies with the patient. Discuss w/your doctor and other members or your diabetes care team.
