Persistent cold: The most common reason for the cold that hangs on for a month or longer is bronchospasm triggered by the cold. The cold is usually a viral infection, for which there is no treatment, as antibiotics won't help. But in susceptible people viral infections can trigger low grade bronchospasm, with or without mild wheezing, which causes spasms of cough for up to a 2 months. Treat with bronchodilator.

Walking pneumonia: If an infection is suspected, a possibility is something called mycoplasma pneumonia which can present as an ongoing cold with or without fever. Could be something other than an infection too, such as asthma, allergic bronchitis, or other issue. Have it checked out by your doctor.
