Pain is a personal..: Thing, but often patients will describe a deep, gnawing, unrelenting pain with sickle pain crises. It's also common for patients to have pain recur in the same places. Opiates combined with nsaids generally are satisfactory for control, but sometimes hospitalization is needed to control pain. Aggressive pain control is important to mitigate other serious sequelae such as acute chest syndrome.
