By looking with: A speculum and doing a pap smear and cultures if necessary and then palpating it with one or 2 fingers to check the contour , etc.

Pelvic Exam and Pap: Your gyn looks at the cervix by placing a speculum into the vagina and directly visualizing it. They then do a pap smear to evaluate for cervical cancer or pre cancer (dysplasia) and finally the feel it with their fingers when they do a pelvic bimanual exam.
