A 48-year-old female asked:
what kind of abnormal cells in the uterus can cause bleeding?

Vaginal bleeding: This can be the result of conditions anywhere in the female genital tract, most commonly in the uterus, and the part of the uterus extending into the vagina (cervix). This can be due to infection, tumor, or other inflammatory conditions. You need to see a gynecologist and have this evaluated and treated aggressively soon. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Endometrium: Most common answer would be endometrial polyps which are overwhelmingly benign. I bleeding persists, a D&C with hysteroscopy should be performed.

Can you tell me where does the bleeding come from if it is not the lining of the uterus sloughing off?

You are right !: The lining of the uterus known as endometrium builds up every cycle as a thin lining insiode the uterine cavity. When it sheds, the uterine wall bleeds. This is the period.

A 26-year-old female asked:
What does it mean when the lining of the uterus is thick but your not bleeding?

US reading: Assuming this was from an US reading, it simply means that your uterus was measured and found to be in the "thick" classification category. As long as you are getting regular routine evaluations with your GYN dr. and getting your normal screening test done, and have no symptoms, AND assuring your GYN knows the report of the US, and is following you...then you should be fine.

Depends: Is the bleeding just spotting or bleeding like a menstrual period? If later, you may be undergoing a spontaneous loss of an early pregnancy. It would be prudent to see your doctor and if that is not feasible, go the emergency room of the nearest hospital.
