Do most people in the tropics eventually get cataracts?

Most get cataract: Virtually everyone, will develop cataracts if they live long enough, which is a clouding of the natural lens of the eye. Not all cataracts will affect the vision and need to be removed, however. A lifetime of sun exposure, family history, nutritional problems, tobacco use, eye trauma, diabetes, and steroid use are all causes. Uv protection or even just using a wide brim hat can help protect.

Everyone gets catara: Not just in the tropics. If we live long enough, we are all prone to develop cataract. Genetics, environment, and lifestyle can play a role in when in life this occurs, but if you live long enough you will likely get cataract and benefit from the surgery. With modern lens implants, patients often end up with better vision after surgery than what they had before the cataract even developed.
