A member asked:

Over the last 6 weeks, my morning blood sugar increased from the 90s to 120s. last week i had an a1c of 5.6%. is this normal for a non-diabetic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Normal: A hba1c of 5.6 is normal. Fasting blood sugars are normal <100, prediabetes if between 100-125, consistent with diabetes >125. Blood sugars after meals vary depending on how soon after it was done, normal is <140, diabetes is >200. Was your morning sugar fasting or not? Was it done by a lab or by a fingerstick glucose monitor? These monitors are not always accurate.
