As usual, it depends: Low back pain can be caused by many things including bulging or herniated intervertebral discs, nerve impingment, spinal stenosis, spondylosis, or muscle spasm. If rest and over the counter analgesics don't provide relief, you should be evaluated by a spine specialist to determine the cause of your pain and begin a targeted treatment regimen, which may include pt, medications, or injections.
