Yes: Yes, but beware, 1/3 of all patients placed on benzos become addicted to them.

Work with doctor: If concerned about adult adhd, please get a full evaluation with a psychologist or psychiatrist. People with adhd can have restlessness and agitation, but this is not the same as anxiety. The differentiation is very important. I suggest caution in trying to add Ritalin (methylphenidate) to your ongoing benzos (clonazepam), as it may worsen anxiety -- plus both can create tolerance/habituation.

CHECK FURTHER: Adhd and anxiety don't always come together. The anxiety needs work of it's own, and adhd can leave a history of difficulties in the past - disappointments, problems with confidence, etc. You want a psychiatrist who will approach these with comprehensive psychotherapy and get the whole thing worked out.

May not need them: Very often the adhd may be a major cause of the anxiety. People with adhd often have an opposite response to low dose stimulants (think of the hyperactive kid who calms down on low dose stimulants). Many of my adult adhd patients with anxiety find they no longer need benzos once they arrive at an effective dose of stimulants. Consult with a good adhd specialist to individualize your treatmentadult.

Be careful: Adhd symptoms can sometimes feel like anxiety and vice-versa. Benzos tend to lower attention and concentration. Stimulants can increase anxiety (if it is unrelated to adhd) so, even if you do have both adhd + .Anxiety, it may would be wise to weigh the pros and cons of each class of meds carefully. Talk to you doc in detail about this.
