Moles can change: Some people are born with moles (congenital nevi), but most develop during childhood, as a teenager or young adult. Factors that influence this include sun exposure and genetics. New moles may appear up to age 35 or so. As we get older, moles can begin to disappear. If you are concerned about the appearance or changes in a mole, you should see a dermatologist for a full skin examination.

Light mole: Generally moles do not lighten although freckles will fade in the winter or when less sun exposure occurs. Have a dermatologist evaluate any changing mole or freckle.
