Make sure: Make sure if you have bonded brackets with resins, and resin attachments, etc. They will not change color/shade as you whiten... They may need to be updated to whiter shade after you complete any whitening if you choose to do anything at all.

No whitening: While in braces no whitening because it will cause white spots around the brackets. When braces are removes it will have a condition we call fluorosis.

Bleaching teeth: If you have brackets ( braces) on your teeth, the whitening solution cannot get to the tooth structure underneath those brackets. That means that while the part of the tooth that is exposed will get lighter, the part under the brackets won't- resulting in mottled teeth.. Best to wait until the braces come off.

Yes, it is possible: Although it's not a well-known technique, it is possible to bleach your teeth during braces treatment. Since Teeth whitening is done with one of two active ingredients: carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide penetrates the tooth and spreads throughout, even the part of your tooth covered by the bracket will whiten from the inside. Ask your dentist for Opalescence Treswhite Ortho prefilled system.

Braces-bleaching: Most Orthodontic Specialists that i know do NOT recommend bleaching while braces are on. Where brackets are cemented to the teeth i do not see how the bleaching agent can penetrate that seal. nor do i see how the bleach can penetrate the tooth structure deep enough to leach in under the brackets from the sides. most indications are to wait until orthodontic treatment is completed, then whiten.

Be patient: I've seen patients go to extreme lengths to whiten teeth during Orthodontic care, only to require remedial treatment after braces are removed. Be patient. Get your teeth straightened first. Keep them immaculately clean during your time in braces. Wait about 3 months after braces are removed for full enamel remineralization, then have your General Dentist whiten your teeth.
