Have it examined: This tooth may need root canal therapy. The filling may have been deep. Did your dentist mention anything to you when it was restored? I always prepare my patients for this when deep restorations are placed. It may also be something simple like a bite adjustment or the filling may have cracked.

Re-evaluation: Dull sensitivity can be normal for a little bit of time but something that lasts 6 weeks after the restoration was placed needs to be examined. The filling could have been deep or there could be a leak or a myriad of other factors but getting it examined is needed.

Prematurity: It could be that the filling is a little high. In that case a simple occlusal adjustment will bring relief. It could also be that there has been damage to the nerve of the tooth requiring root canal treatment. Please call your dentist to review your situation.

Call your dentist: Many things can cause your problem from a high filling that could not be properly adjusted while you were anesthetized to a cracked tooth or a reaction to the filling material. I suspect that the dentist will want to see you for an evaluation and a possible pulp test to evaluate the status of the nerve in the tooth.
