OTC vs prescription: Over the counter medications such as Miconazole generally have excellent effectiveness when used as directed. Oral Fluconazole is another option, but requires a prescription. Other non-medical steps such as wearing cotton underwear, avoiding douching, eating yogurt, and wearing clothing that is not tight can all help decrease risk of recurrence.
