Why would it be that my splint is so loose after only 4 days?

Splint: It depends on the location of the splint, the type of splint, and if the splint was fit well to begin with. This most likely is due to a decrease in swelling as compared to four days ago. This also could be due to muscle atrophy if swelling was not a factor. You may want to see your physician to have your splint re-fit to ensure you are getting the maximum benefit.
