Trauma: is most common cause of circumscribed lip numbness. Infection is probably the second most common cause. Focal neuropathy of a branch of the trigeminal nerve can occur in diabetics and with other rare conditions (polyarteritis nodosa, Pagets disease, amyloidosis , etc) If the problem persists see a neurologist. If other symptoms occur or if the numbness spreads go to the ER
