Joint effusion: If you have a swollen painful knee after basketball, then you should not be playing basketball, and find out what is the damage inside your knee that is causing fluid to build up inside the joint. See an orthopedic surgeon. Protect that joint. You need it to walk for the next many years.

Rest, ice: Rest, ice, take antiinflammatory meds and see your doctor if pain continues. Usually you'll get referred to an orthopedist or physical therapist or sports medicine doctor. Ask your primary, which one would be best in your case. Hope this helps!
