Not w/o big bruise: If you 'just' did it (last 3-4 days) and still have a lot of swelling / bruising in the area, then maybe. Otherwise, it is very suspicious for presence of a fracture. Even if x-rayed at time of event, should see hand surgeon / orthopedist for recheck and re-xray (not all breaks are immediately visible). Otherwise may lose function.

Contusion or bruise : To a knuckle ie you have had trauma and a negative xray and now its some time after and you can't make a full fist...Common scenario . Even a slight bit of fluid or swelling in a joint, especially a small joint of the hand or finger has a great effect on terminal range of motion both flexion and extension. Its a volume thing, when one tries to make a full fist the extra fluid gets in the way.
