Coconut oil = A+: Coconut oil contains a saturated fat called lauric acid, a type of medium chain triglyceride --> increases "good" HDL cholesterol in the blood & helps improve cholesterol ratios. Coconut oil lowers cholesterol by promoting its conversion to pregnenolone, a precursor to many of the hormones our bodies need. And, breaking down mct's in the liver leads to more efficient metabolism. Nice profile!

Not healthy but...: Coconut oil actually is not healthy but it is a good alternative to butter and margarine for baking purposes. Its main fat, a saturated fat called lauric acid, may have some anti-infection benefits, but in general, coconut oil does not promote health. Few studies in humans have actually been done. Most studies done are from brazil and philippines, where coconut products are a major export.
