Sciatica?: It sounds like sciatica and usually you will not need surgery for this condition. Physical therapy and medication are the most common forms of treatment with high success. Best of luck.

Pain to foot: This sounds like a compression syndrome like sciatica. See your neurologist - conservative care is very effective.
