A member asked:

I am 16 and my eye power is -12. can i take a laser operation without risk?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely: The usual lasik breakpoint is about -10. Since the procedure sculpts the cornea into a new lense which removes tissue, there is a danger and uncertainty to fully treating those with greater than -10 of myopia. You are too young at 16 to consider this anyway as there are usually changes over the next 10 years until stability. Some at this point might suggest a partial correction to improve this.
