REM-like phenomenon: During rem sleep, or dreaming, your muscle tone strikingly drops, and movements are essentially nil. Sleep paralysis is merely persistence of that sleep stage for a few moments. This in quite common in narcolepsy, so if any questionable problems, get this evaluated.
