Family practice : Redness is one sign of infection warmth and drainage would also be evidence. I would apply neosporin to it several times a day. Make sure your tetanus booster is up to date. If redness persists you may need antibiotics. You could see your dr right away and s/he may start antibiotics to promote healing and prevent potential worsening.

Depends: So erythema is normal as a response to the injury. Wash the area with soap and water, apply antibiotic ointment and cover with a dressing. Need to check on your tetanus status.
