A member asked:

Can valerian cause depression?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possible: Valerian affects the GABA receptor system in the brain which can help with anxiety and insomnia. Large doses or long term use can cause a feeling of mental dullness or mild depression. Xanax (alprazolam) has the same effect on the body. Since they are both central nervous system depressants, they should not be used together.
