Constipation w infan: Infants like adults sometimes need help to go but if they feed regularly and drink extra water the incidence should be monomial so if you are worried just give your infant 4 oz of nursery water a day in addition to milk.

See below: There is no way to "prevent" constipation but you can reduce its frequency and intensity with various dietary alterations. Second, consti is determined by the consistency of the stool, not the frequency, unless no stool for more than 1 week. If the child is less than 2 mo, dark karo syrup - 1 tsp/2 oz formula 1-2 times day can loosen stools. If older, using some juices, reducing milk can help.

Constipation: The important question is whether you are breast feeding. If you are breast fed babies can go as long as a week without having a stool. This all quite normal for breast fed babies.

Fiber is good but: If you are not drinking enough fluid it can lead to constipation. Remember caffeine and alcohol dehydrate and lead to constipation. Generally i recommend 80-100 ounces of caffeine free/alcohol free fluids every day. It will take 10-14 days of this regimen to see improvement. If not better need to have a GI workup for other causes of constipation.
