Pain & swelling: Pain and swelling are pretty common signs of an infection. Pain in the gum tissue behind your second molars is indicative of erupting wisdom teeth.

Symptoms: Symptoms of tooth infection could be bad taste, swelling, pain, fever. Symptoms of erupting wisdom tooth could be swelling, pain, difficulty in biting down all the way, irritation to cheek. If the question is not hypothetical and you are have any one of those symptoms, see your dentist to find the cause of the problem. Good idea to see dentist for exam\x-rays anyway if it's been 6 months or more.

See your dentist: If you are 22 as is says than you are in a prime time to have symptoms from your wisdom teeth that may be partially or completely impacted. Removal will be your best option once you start having any symptoms related to the wisdom teeth. See your dentist or oral surgeon for antibiotics and treatment of the problematic teeth. Best of luck.
