A friend was prescribed hydrocodone/ibuprofen 7.5/200 for pain from an abscess tooth. one doesn't seem to help. can she take two the next time?

No: It may be too much hydrocodone at one time. Is she also taking an antibiotic? The infection needs to be brought under control and that may take a day or two. Have her speak to her dentist who will be treating her for the abscess.

Pain meds: The cause needs treatment. If it is an abscess, she needs antibiotics and treatment. The best thing to due with the pain meds until she reaches her dentist is to take 1/2 a tab plus one additional otc Ibuprofen tablet. It may work better.

See Endodontist: Pain meds simply don't work in these situations due to the acute nature of the infection. If the tooth is salvageable, a root canal, along with proper antibiotics, will solve your problem. The sooner you get treated, the faster your pain relief!
