Risks vs benefits: All ssris are associated with a small chance of birth defects, and a high chance of infant withdrawal after birth. Nevertheless, if your mood is not stable, that has much greater potential for harm. Talk to your prescribing doctor if you're contemplating conception.

Category C: Luvox (fluvoxamine) is a category c medication, meaning that pregnancy risk cannot be ruled out. Research studies suggest no evidence of adverse effects when used during pregnancy and when an antidepressant is necessary during pregnancy, ssris like Luvox (fluvoxamine) can be a good choice. That being said, it's not ideal and so benefit should always be weighed against possible risk.

Ask your doctor: There's no right 'generally speaking' kind of answer for this question. You really should speak to your doctor about the risk vs. Benefits of continuing ssri during pregnancy to you and to the unborn child, as well as the risks vs. Benefits of leaving your symptoms uncontrolled. A lot will depend on how severe your illness gets when untreated with meds.

Luvox (fluvoxamine) is FDA : Pregnancy category c. It hasn't been well studied in humans but has caused some health problems in animals. The bottom line is risk and benefit would be weighed by your psychiatrist and your obstetrician to determine what is in the best interest of you and your baby. There would need to be collaboration of care btwn your providers.

Luvox (fluvoxamine): I would not advise using it, especially during first trimester. Talk to your doctor about alternatives.
