What is better for glaucoma diagnosis, oct or hrt?

Neither: You cannot diagnose glaucoma on the basis of just an oct or hrt. Glaucoma is truly defined as the loss of nerve tissue over time from pressures that are too high for the eye. You need to look at the entire clinical picture to make the diagnosis.

OCT: Oct is superior than hrt in assisting the ophthalmologist in making a diagnosis of glaucoma. In addition to the retinal nerve fiber layer, oct can measure the thickness of the ganglion cell layer. Although not yet available to clinicians yet, a new oct based on ultra high resolution imaging can identify individual retinal ganglion cells and could become the gold standard of glaucoma diagnosis.
