Generally after you: Are finished having children. I have had to re-do two breast reductions in patients who had children after their first reductions and whose breasts became very large again with pregnancy and nursing. On the other hand, I have done reductions in 15 yr-old girls with enormous breasts and severe neck and back pain because of them.

Depends on Situation: Breast reduction surgery is one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform. Timing of the operation is best individualized, depending on the specific patient's life circumstances. If a patient is planning on having children in the near future, generally best to wait on proceeding with breast reduction surgery. Also best done when patients have achieved a long-term stable weight.
