CST treatment: As soon as cst is suspected, IV antibiotics (vancomycin to cover MRSA & 3rd generation cephalosporin or fluoroquinolone in pcn-allergic) should be started. Once cultures determine causative organism, more specific ab's can be used. If no bleeding complications, blood thinner is added as well as IV steroids, & surgical drainage; if bleeding, no blood thinner is used. —>.

Yes: Most cases of cavernous sinus thrombosis are due to infection by a bacteria called staph aureus (70%), so antibiotics (high dose iv) are the first line of treatment and are highly effective. Sometime, surgery is needed to drain the infection.
