It depends : Anemia (low hemoglobin) could be caused by several things. The most common cause of anemia in women of child bearing age is blood loss through regular menstrual cycle blood loss. Other causes of anemia include destruction of blood cells or decrease production due to bone marrow disease. Decrease absorption of iron, vitamin B12 or folate (folic acid) could also cause anemia.
