Do lots of people get achilles tendonitis, or is it unusual?

No: Check if you got an antibiotic like Cipro (ciprofloxacin) or Levaquin or other quinolone recently (sseveral days, or weeks). Ocassionally pts who took any of these got Achilles tendonitis or even rupture but may affect any tendon in the body. Not common.
