A member asked:

Does melanoma typically present with a mark or lesion of some sort? can it be present with an itch and no visible abnormality? other skin cancers?

Yes, with a black mo: If there is no visible skin abnormality then there is nothing to worry about. Most melanomas present with a black or brown mole which is changing in color or size over a period of some months to years. Itching with a mole is worrysome but itching alone is not of concern for developing melanoma.

Mole: Any itchy, painful, sensitive, or changing mole should be evaluated by a dermatologist for skin cancer. Most but not all melanoma presents as a dark , irregular bordered spot or growth.
