Yes: Sun exposure increases your risk but anyone of any race can get melanoma. Bob Marley died of melanoma in his 30's. :(

Uncommon but Yes: Melanoma does sometimes occur in sun unexposed areas of the body like soles of the feet and genital areas. Anal melanoma is another well known though rare type. Nearly 80% of melanomas are sun related. So you can avoid and prevent that many from affecting you. All you have to do is avoid sun burns.
