Keloid: Keloid are thickened scars that occur after surgical procedures. Although, they occur during initial wound healing most frequently, they can sometimes develop a long time after the initial injury. They can be treated with intralesional steroid injections. See a dermatologist to evaluate the scar and to discuss treatment options.

Scar tissue?: Scar tissue typically forms and reforms for the first 12-18 months after any surgery. If scar tissue continues to grow after that in may be something else - keloid, lymph nodes, etc. Or in the case of thyroidectomy you may have thyroid tissue that has begun growing again in that area. If this is suspicious or if your original surgery was for cancer i would recommend a biopsy. Make an appointment.
