Don't: It is very important that both physicians are aware of what is going on. As far as taking the water pill without your heart doctor's knowledge- this can be dangerous.Talk it over with your heart doctor. There is probably a good reason he/she does not want you to take the water pill.

Water Pill: You should discuss this with your doctor. Diuretics can reduce potassium, sodium, and if overused can lead to dehydration and subsequent kidney damage. Tell your doctor why you want to take an occasional water pill. He may agree that it is ok given your state of health. He may also think that you risk worse issues. A lot of fluid retention issues are more properly managed by lower dietary salt.
