Not really: Gastroenteritis is a self-limited viral illness characterized by nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Exposure to the virus is all that is necessary to get the illness. People with weak immune systems may be more prone to get viral illnesses, but people with normal immunity can get sick if exposed to the viruses that cause gastroenteritis.
