Food allergy: The development of allergic antibodies requires the exposure to the food and can develop after years of a food consumption without allergic symptoms. Rarely, food reactive antibodies may develop from cross-reactions with other non-food allergens. A good example of cross-reactivity would be melon allergy in ragweed allergic persons or banana allergy in someone with latex allergy.
