A member asked:

Since i have had hsv-1 orally, since i was a child, does than mean that the antibodies can help it from spreading to other parts of my body?

No: Hsv actually lives inside the nervous system, protected from the immune system.

Interesting question: This is a pattern illness. The first episode of oral hsv-1 is often the worst, with a larger spread of the lesions. Once it fades (and your antibodies develop) it seeks out a hiding place to hibernate in nerve cell centers. It will occasionally resurface in the distribution of the nerve cluster it hides in, (like near your lips) but your antibodies keep it from traveling to distant sites.
