See a neurologist: The best thing to do is to see a neurologist experienced in treating transverse myelitis. Transverse myelitis can be due to unknown cause (idiopathic) or associated with other diseases such as viral infections, autoimmune diseases, multiple sclerosis or sarcoidosis. Treating the underlying causes can help. Certain types may respond to steroids or intravenous gamma globulin. Physical therapy helps.
