Shingles: Unfortunately there is very little to do, Ibuprofen and oatmeal baths may help. Liquid Benadryl (diphenhydramine) applied judiciously to certain areas of the skin may help with the itch.

Lidoderm: Lidoderm patch (a prescription) may help and will be less messy that liquid forms.
