Many causes: The feeling of a rapid heart beat can be normal, but sometimes can be associated with an abnormal heart beat. If the thyroid, electrolytes, anemia, or structural heart abnormality is present, the chance of abnormal heart rhythm increases. Full evaluation requires an event monitor or holter monitor to know exactly what the heart rhythm and rate is.
