Depends on cause: If you are a sexually active female, this could likely be a urinary tract infection in which a doctor would prescribe antibiotics. A doctor will do a workup to find the cause of the painful urination and treat accordingly. It is difficult to say what your painful urination is due to without more information. See your primary care physician for diagnosis and treatment.

Depends: Usually an uncomplicated bladder infection is easily treated with a short course of antibiotics. For long term pain, you really need an exam to screen for scarring, polyps, or resistant infections. It's usually a quick visit. Pyridium (phenazopyridine) can be added short term to numb your bladder until your infection is treated.

Painful urination: Pyridium (phenazopyridine) ( prescription) or Azo over the counter. Also some antiinflamatories like Ibuprofen or naprosyn may help if not contraindicated. Rule out stones, obstruction to urine flow and infection requiring antibiotics.
