A member asked:

I heard that when you have your last period, doctor count u 2week pregnant at the conception before you even conceive or get preg. yet? am confusing

A doctor has provided 1 answer

That is correct: By convention we count the pregnancy from the last period since that is readily identified and recorded. You are therefore "2 weeks pregnant" when conception actually occurs. We say the term pregnancy is 40 weeks, but this is actually 38 weeks from conception.
